About Colleen Kelly

A/Prof. Colleen B. Kelly retired as a world leader in the field of sports biomechanics due to breast cancer – but that hasn’t stopped her!

In her “retirement” Colleen donates her time, as the Honorary Chair of the International Anti-Slavery Commission leading the fight to end human trafficking world-wide.

Colleen started her career in exercise physiology, some 40 years ago, working in major rehabilitation gymnasiums in Australia, originally working with footballers, then weightlifters, runners.

Finally, she combined biomechanics with her family’s long history of horse training and riding which saw her work with pupils to many Olympics and Paralympics (including medals!).

The recipient of many Awards & Honors, Colleen’s world tour saw her speak at Universities such as Queensland University, University of Kentucky, Averett University, Asbury University and Virginia Tech. Colleen was invited to give 17 presentations at the World Equestrian Games Festival in Lexington Kentucky in 2010 where the Lexington Mounted Police, and several of her pupils at Olympic level were her demonstration riders.

Colleen is retired, (see breast cancer blog) but still helps with several homeless charities, and donates her time as a Board Member of the International Anti Slavery Commission.

…and she still hasn’t lost that famous Aussie sense of humour that saw audiences around the world wracked with laughter watching a scientist still able to have so much fun at Olympic level.
